Default Few questions from a new player....

Got Prophecies a few days ago and I got a few questions....

1. How do you get rid of "customized" items? I can't sell them and have to keep them in storage which is filling up.

2. The manual says you can see missions on the map, but I can't see any. Is there another map key other than "M"?

3. Skill points, where are thay shown? I hit "K" and see my attributes(and attribute points) and skills, but I don't see where my amount of skill points are shown.

Thanks!

1. Hit F9 to bring up your character sheet. Drag the customized/bonus item into the trash can (it's near the bottom-right). You can use your Space Bar to answer "OK" to the dialogue that pops up when you trash things, to speed the process up.

2. You can see missions on the map IF you've made it to that mission's outpost. After you complete the mission, you can travel back to it using your map (M). Follow your primary quests to find the next mission. (Use L to open quest log, "Primary" quests are at the top and designed to lead you to your next mission)

2a. There IS another map... press U. It's your "Area map" and it's useful for some neat things.

2b. There are no "misisons" in pre-searing. So, if Ascalon is still green and pretty, don't worry about "missions" yet. Just do your quests and Primary quests.

3. Press H to bring up your hero sheet. Your skill points will be at the top right.

Cheers, enjoy!

You can sell them to [Merchant]s and any other vendor NPC with a Sell tab, except for your starting armor. A confirmation panel will pop up asking if you really mean to sell it, that's all.

All 'customized' means is that the weapon (which will then do an unconditional +20% base damage) or armor can only be used by the character (and that character's Heroes, except for armor since they have their own) it is customized for. The storybooks you'll get later in the game are also customized and also can't be sold.

Mission location icons look different on your "M" map than outposts. In Prophecies, the mission location icons look like shields (once you've completed the mission, a sword will cross the shield, and if you've gotten the bonus, a second sword will cross it).

I know maps confused me a lot when I was new.

Heh, was wondering what the shield meant, thanks.

If you are new.. (hides from all the guru users that will hurt me for this) a really useful tool is the F10 wiki search, you can generally find all the answers very quickly...

I know everyone on Guru is generally very helpful! but sometimes you just need to check something quickly and that is imho the best place to get started.. also the link here

Actually, I think the Guru consensus is that the wiki should be a player's prime source for gameplay information. Not to say that people shouldn't post questions, especially if they're still in the dark after reading the wiki. But it serves a great purpose and is a much more informative learning tool than asking questions here one at a time.

Additionally, one can search the wiki direct from the in-game chat box with the command: /wiki search term

Some important notices:

!) If you just started Prophecies, you start in the area known as "pre-searing". You can easily check: do you see grass and green trees all around you? If yes, you're in presearing.

Presearing is a tutorial area and does not have any missions, so of course you won't see any on your map. Once you leave, you'll enter the game proper, and won't be able to go back any more.

Once you leave, you'll see a much larger map, and there's lots to uncover there. On that map, you'll see mission outposts when you get there. If you follow your primary quests, they'll lead you to your first mission, The great northern wall. In prophecies and Factions, you'll know that you're in a mission outpost because you'll see a "Enter mission" button under your party members' names.

As for customized items, only some of them cannot be sold/salvaged. Most, those you customize yourself, CAN be sold to merchants and salvaged for components. Actually, it's not customization that counts - it's the way you acquire the item (like starter armor that you are given for free and therefore cannot sell.

You can always destroy a weapon by dragging it to the trash can icon in your inventory screen.

As for skill points, you can view them on the same screen that shows your faction standing and experience, I think the default key is H. Mind you, skill points will only matter for a very short time... you'll be swimming in them once the limiting factor becomes the gold cost of the trainer (which maxes out at 1000 gold per skill).

It's somewhere in between actually. Posters here will usually point people toward using the wiki, but simply answering a question with a wiki link and no other explanation, is frowned upon.

For the OP: There's also no Xunlai storage in pre-Searing. Later in the game, there are one or two storage chests in towns and outposts where you can store your gear, including a "pane" or section for raw materials. There's an initial fee for this in in-game currency (not RL), but you'll find yourself using the storage daily.
Some players have perma-Pre characters, though I don't, which means they don't have this Xunlai storage; nor do they have henchmen. I.E., their character doesn't leave the time in Ascalon history before the Searing. "Prelapsarian", say it with me, folks. Ascalon pre-Searing is amazingly beautiful, though.

I second the notion of looking at guild wiki and I don't think it's mean to point it out. It's a beautiful treasure trove of everything you could possibly want to know about GW.

When I began playing GW I had no knowledge of it, and could have kissed the person who finally pointed it out to me. I've been playing for 3 years now and I *still* consult it almost daily, looking for where I can find skill caps and general advice on vanquishing or just to look at various armors and weapons.

Guru, in general, is another awesome treasure trove of information.

Oh, and welcome! I almost wish I could go back to be a new person in Pre-searing. There is SO much waiting for you out in the big wide world.
